These earrings were created by my husband Jeff in one of our very favorite woods of all time- mountain mahogany. Mountain mahogany is just gorgeous. The colors can have such a wide range and some pieces Jeff and I think look like sunsets over the desert. (The wood also has a fun story- it came from a woodworking friend of Jeff's who drove along at just the right time to save the wood- a power company had cut the tree down from under the lines and were going to throw the wood out. He saved the wood thankfully, so it could be made into such beautiful things rather than wasted.)
With all the sanding and polishing he does to bring out the beauty of the wood, these earrings are so smooth, and you'll love the way they feel. These earrings have a unique shape and I love the tiny bit of natural bark along the bottom edge. (These earrings are not our most lightweight earrings, so if you are looking for our most lightweight earrings- cedar is the best choice.) These earrings come on sterling silver plated ear wires. (They have gone through a process to keep the bark on- more on that below- but even so the bark could come off over time.)
Made for the nature lover, may these fun and unique earrings bring you delight wherever you go!
Measurements: Under 1/2 inch wide. Between 1.5 and 1.75 inches long.
*This particular pair of earrings has gone through a process to keep the bark on. A note from Jeff: "A lot of folks like the look of buttons with the bark still on them, but this isn't possible with most woods because the bark will come off right away. So I came up with a method of adhering the bark with a special inert (non-toxic) adhesive that permeates the bark then holds it to the main wood. Any adhesive on the surface of the button is then sanded and polished off. This gives a really nice look especially with Hemlock and Sassafras."
Beautiful wood + lots of sanding + natural oil finish + polishing on the buffing wheel + a whole lotta love = some gorgeous and unique jewelry for you to enjoy. With so many fun designs and variations to choose from, we hope you'll find something you'll love!
