These wooden buttons were created in reclaimed sassafras wood by my husband Jeff. I think our sassafras buttons look like something a hobbit would wear (and I hold hobbits in the highest regard.) They look like buttons right out of the woods for sure. I love the rings of growth, the warm honey hue, and the natural bark around the outside. These buttons have gone through a process to keep the bark on, more on that below.

*This particular set of buttons has gone through a process to keep the bark on. A note from Jeff: "A lot of folks like the look of buttons with the bark still on them, but this isn't possible with most woods because the bark will come off right away. So I came up with a method of adhering the bark with a special inert (non-toxic) adhesive that permeates the bark then holds it to the main wood. Any adhesive on the surface of the button is then sanded and polished off. This gives a really nice look especially with Hemlock and Sassafras."

~Care Instructions~ Care for these buttons as you would wool: hand wash garment in cool water and lay flat to dry. If the wood should dry out from washing, a little walnut oil (or other natural oil) on a soft cloth works well to moisturize them. Oiling them will keep your buttons beautiful and protect them from drying out.
